Four new Covid-19 infections detected across NHS Highland region; increase came as 168 new coronavirus cases were reported across Scotland over the past 24 hours

FOUR new Covid-19 infections have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose from 5159 to 5163 when the latest daily figures were released on Monday.

There were 168 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 1.6 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Seventy-two people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night, six of whom were in intensive care.

No new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were again no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Twenty fresh positive tests were recorded across NHS Grampian, taking its overall total to 15,200.

And there were 11 new cases in NHS Tayside – for a running tally of 14,761.

Some 227,840 positive tests have been recorded across Scotland since the pandemic began.

Almost 2.91 million people in Scotland have now received their first vaccination jag, while nearly 1.49 have had their second.
