NHS Highland has made a call for available staff to get in touch tonight so they can work tomorrow.

The rare call comes against a rise in demand on health services in the area.

Staff are needed to cover shifts at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and Migdale Hospital in Bonar Bridge.

The health board has issued a message on social media, adding: "We know this is a lot to ask at this time of year, and we greatly appreciate any support our colleagues are able to give."

The statement reads: "Our health and social care system is experiencing extreme levels of pressure and we are appealing to all colleagues who are not working, and those who may be on annual leave but available to work, to please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

"We are especially asking for a Band 5 nurse who is able to work in Migdale Hospital during the say shift tomorrow and nurese/HCSWs of all bands who can work at Raigmore Hospital tomorrow to please get in touch.

"We are also in need of a domestic who could work at Invernevis Care Home in Fort William tomorrow.

"We know this is a lot to ask at this time of year, and we greatly appreciate any support you are able to give.

"Any nurse who can work in Migdale/Invernevis can contact Gillian Davidson on 07818 015863 to discuss. Colleagues who can work in Raigmore can contact the nurse manager via the switchboard on 01463 704000 or via 07976 429977."
