TWENTY-two further Covid-19 infections have been detected across NHS Highland.

The region's cumulative number of confirmed cases increased from 1797 to 1819 when the latest daily update was published on Tuesday afternoon.

Across Scotland a further 1316 positive tests were recorded yesterday, although this higher figure may be linked to a "backlog" at UK government laboratories.

Some 1045 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – down 33 on the previous day. Of those, 60 were in intensive care – a rise one one.

And sadly a further 43 people who tested positive have since died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in the Northern Isles or Western Isles.

But NHS Grampian posted a large daily increase – reporting 172 new cases in the past 24 hours. It has now recorded 6580 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic.

NHS Tayside detected 75 new cases, for an overall tally of 7248.

There have now been 114,366 positive tests for Covid-19 in Scotland since the outbreak began in the spring.
