CAITHNESS revellers can take in the New Year at street parties in Wick and Thurso.

Allan Farquhar, the chairman the HAPPY (Hogmanay and People's Party Yearly) committee, confirmed the Wick event is taking place in Market Square and said local band Penny Lane will be on stage from 11.15pm until 1.15am.

He is hoping the weather will be kind and the party will attract a large crowd to see in 2020.

Mr Farquhar said: "Donations on the night to fund the New Year party would be gratefully received. Anyone willing to help out on the night, please get in touch with the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council or me on 01955 603283."

The Thurso party has been organised by Hogmanay in Thurso (HIT) and will be held from 11pm to 1am in Sir John's Square. Music will be provided by Cover2Cover.

A spokesman for HIT said: "We are hoping for some good weather and a good crowd on the night. We have had good support from local businesses to help stage the event but we are short of volunteers to go round with the buckets to collect money for next year's party.

"It costs between £1500 and £2000 to put it on and it is all funded by donations. There is a message on our Facebook page for people to come along and help."
