New venue for Canisbay Show
A VENUE change is on the cards for the Canisbay Show with a move to a bigger nearby park as its popularity continues to grow.
The annual event will be held tomorrow with the best of the county’s livestock on show as well as all manner of entertainments for show-goers.
Chairman John MacBeath is looking forward to the 27th annual show and said it has been a strong year for entries again. Numerous equestrian events as well as the usual agricultural classes will be there to view.
Last year saw an increase in all sections of the livestock competitions, but particularly the horse entries.
He said: “This year sees the show move to a new, bigger park after a number of successful years at Canisbay Community Hall.

“The move has not been without challenges, especially with the committee coming together quite late but the show’s appeal continues.”
A packed programme of events includes, for children, kite-making, a pets corner as well as kids’ races later in the day.
The dancers of the Violet Leitch School of Dancing will be there to entertain, as well as performances from local musicians. Those involved in Caithness Gymnastics will treat show attendees to a display on the day. In the main ring, the Caithness tug o’ war team will be attending for an exhibition match with a team of Canisbay veterans. A dog show will also take place, starting at 2pm with entries taken on the day, and a display of terrier racing will be held.
The show will open at noon, with the crowning of show queen Alice Dunnet, with attendants Dani Fraser and Joanna Shearer.
