New positive Covid-19 test recorded by NHS Highland for third day in a row

A FRESH Covid-19 case has been reported by NHS Highland for the third day running.

The number of positive tests recorded in the health board area rose by one to 392 when the latest daily update was published at 2pm.

It followed single-case increases on both Monday and Tuesday.

Nationally, 50 people tested positive for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The death toll from those with confirmed coronavirus also increased for the first time in several weeks, after a single case was added to the total. However, officials said this death occurred in April and is only appearing on the figures now owing to "a delay in the lab result being reported into the national system".

The number of people requiring hospital treatment for the virus fell slightly overnight, dropping from 254 on Tuesday to 248 today. There were also only two people in intensive care last night, down from three the day before.

There were double-figure increases in both NHS Grampian and NHS Tayside

Grampian reported 15 new positive tests in the past 24 hours, to take its cumulative tally since the start of the pandemic to 1861.

NHS Tayside saw its number of cases increase by 12 to 1866.

No new cases were reported in Shetland, Orkney or the Western Isles.
