New milestone for Wick Voices with over 250,000 listens
The Wick Society's online oral history project has reached another milestone after achieving more than a quarter of a million listens.
Wick Voices, which began four years ago, has built up an archive of 270 audio recordings and the total number of individual plays has risen to 251,370.
The edited interviews – covering a wide range of topics and featuring Caithness people from many walks of life – are available on the Wick Society's website, www.wickheritage.org
Doreen Leith, who leads the voluntary project, said: "People in Caithness and far beyond have obviously enjoyed listening to Wick Voices recordings during lockdown as the total number of plays has now exceeded 250,000, which is magnificent.
"Face-to-face interviews are impossible at the moment, so we have had to find creative ways to add to our collection. In the meantime there are 270 recordings freely accessible online and we do hope to get back to interviewing when circumstances allow."
The stories and reminiscences captured so far cover childhood games, school days, wartime memories, sport, art, music, leisure and much more. Recent additions to the collection have included lockdown reflections.

Interviewees come from various parts of the county, but mostly from Wick and the east coast.
