Halkirk held its first GalaFest – bringing together some popular gala events, alongside a festival vibe, including floats, foot walkers, children’s races, tug-of-war and quoits.
Music was played throughout the day by local bands and musicians, alongside food vans and a licensed bar.
Halkirk Village Council secretary Jane MacIntosh said: “On behalf of the committee I would like to thank everyone involved, including all external groups and organisations who not only came along and participated but also helped pull the day together, it was a tremendous village effort by everyone.
“Despite weather conditions early afternoon, the event was a huge success - we hope to repeat the event next year and would be delighted to receive any feedback and suggestions on events to include for next year.”
A memorial match between Halkirk and Thurso under 14s took place during the GalaFest. The game was in memory of former Halkirk player Michael MacIntosh, known as Foxy, who passed away suddenly in October 2021.
Michael’s daughter Erin presented the cup to Thurso, who won the game 3-0. Also in attendance were his niece Charley Noble and nephew Zac Noble who presented the medals.
The match referee was Lewis Gallacher.
