New businesses to be recognised at annual Highland award ceremony
The Highland Business Women Awards are returning for 2025.
As HBW celebrates its 30th anniversary, this year’s awards are shaping up to be the best yet.
Sponsored by SJ Highland Construction, the ceremony recognises female entrepreneurs and leaders going above and beyond in their sectors.
A returning accolade to this year’s awards is the new business of the year gong.
This title is open to businesses that have been in operation for three years or less.

Judges will review the originality of the business idea, future-proofing, financial performance and the business’s approach to overcoming challenges.
The award was won in 2024 by Hannah Joy Communication.
She said: “I work with families who will benefit from my signature AACcelerate Programme.
“By introducing new ways of using language and communicating, alongside speech your child can understand, you have a means of communication and the opportunity for language and literacy to flourish opening up a world of connection and confidence for you and your child.”
This year’s ceremony takes place on August 21 at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.
Samia Walsh, director of SJ Highland Construction, explained why she is sponsoring this year’s awards: “Our decision to become the title sponsor of the Highland Business Women Awards this year feels like a natural and necessary step. It’s a significant investment in recognising and celebrating the immense talent, hard work, and achievements of women entrepreneurs and professionals throughout the Highlands.
“We want to help shine a spotlight on their successes and, in doing so, inspire more women to pursue their business ambitions, whatever the industry.
“I truly believe that by supporting these awards, we are not just sponsoring an event; we are investing in the future of business in the Highlands. We are helping to build a community where women feel empowered, celebrated, and have equal opportunities to thrive.
“My vision is to see more women leading in all sectors, and I hope our commitment encourages other businesses to champion gender equality too.”
