A new bench was installed on the south side of Wick Bay during a busy morning for Wick Paths Group on Sunday which also included strimming and litter-picking.

Seventeen volunteers turned out. The main task of the day was to clear the picnic bench site halfway up the cliff on the path through the South Head quarries, then lower a replacement plastic bench into place and secure it.

Volunteers went on to strim and clear the path up and down to the bench, while the area around the nearby Cairndhuna Well was also cleared along with parts of the route through the quarries and the overgrown top path in front of the old coastguard station.

A litter-pick was undertaken around the harbour and the riverbank. Paths group secretary John Bogle reported that although quite a lot of litter was collected – including a fridge door and scooter in good condition – there was not as much as previously, "so hopefully our efforts are paying off".
