Nearly 50 local artists donate works for Ukraine fund at Castlehill Heritage Centre on Sunday
Caithness artists have responded enthusiastically to help a Ukrainian Appeal Fund by donating an original piece of their artwork for a sale this Sunday (April 3).
The venue is the Castlehill Heritage Centre where members of the public are invited to come along between 1pm and 6pm and buy a work of art. There is, however, an "element of mystique and surprise which makes this event so unique" and unlike anything organised in the county before, says Society of Caithness Artists chair Ian Pearson who is part organising the event.
"Each work of art will be wrapped so that buyers will be making a purchase not knowing who they are buying from – they will not be aware of the subject matter nor the artist," said Mr Pearson.
"All with be revealed when the wrappings come off after purchase. Buyers are asked to spend a minimum of £25 per piece and there is plenty of art to invest in."
Members of the public will select a number and their purchase will be the artwork with the matching number. All of the money will go towards the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. The Committee brings together 15 leading UK charities, raising funds to respond to overseas disasters quickly and effectively.
"This type of event allows the possibilities of a person obtaining a work by an artist that perhaps they would not normally have thought to purchase. Thus, opening up a broader appreciation of the visual arts in the county." added Mr Pearson.
