Police were called to almost 100 incidents in December and January.

Just short of 1000 incidents were reported to police across the Caithness area over a two-month period.

According to the latest local community engagement report delivered by area inspector Stephen Mezals at an Association of Community Councils meeting in Thurso, between December 1 last year and January 31 a total of 948 incidents were reported.

Of that total, 137 (14.45 per cent) were found to have been criminal incidents and were recorded as such.

From these calls, and from additional crimes and offences discovered by officers on patrol, there have been 275 criminal charges recorded.

A breakdown of call types for the period reveals:

  • 102 incidents for road traffic concerns/hazards (four – 3.9 per cent – resulted in a crime being recorded)

  • 70 incidents for road traffic collisions (17 – 24.3 per cent – resulted in a crime being recorded)
  • 39 incidents for domestic incidents (11 – 28.2 per cent – resulted in a crime being recorded)
