BANFFSHIRE was battered by stormy weather on Sunday which led to the cancellation of the annual vintage car rally at Duff House grounds.

High winds and driving rain also led to the closure of Duff House Royal and Turriff Golf Courses.

It is the second year in a row the car rally, which is organised by Banff Rotary Club, has had to be cancelled.

Debbie Wilson, club president, said that assessments had been carried out up to 11pm on Saturday night.

"The rain came on about midnight and we took the decision early on Sunday to cancel," she said.

"We were left with no choice because the grounds at Duff House were a bit soft anyway before the rain and there was potential to cause damage to the ground and cars."
