NORTHERN Constabulary carried out a total of 1872 drug seizures in 2010/11.

There were 27,319 drug seizures across Scotland during that period, almost a quarter of which involved Class A drugs.

"Drug dealing has a devastating impact on communities and it remains a key priority for Northern Constabulary to disrupt the supply of drugs coming into the force area," said Northern's head of operations Ralph Noble. "The figures revealed today demonstrate that no area of Scotland is untouched by the scourge of drugs and that we must continually concentrate our efforts in combatting this crime."

On Monday £50,000 of suspected Cannabis Resin was seized following a stop and search of a car on the A9 near Tain.

A 38-year-old man and a 48-year-old man have been arrested.

"This is excellent work by police officers carrying out routine mobile patrols and we will continue to take a robust approach in relation to tackling drug dealing in Northern Constabulary," Chief Superintendent Noble added.

Anyone with information about drug related crime should contact police on 01463 715 555 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
