The Big Splash is set to come back!
The Big Splash is coming back to the River Spey and Aviemore.
"The dafter the better" were the words of encouragement from organisers of the event, a daredevil weekend where in past years participants have crashed into the river on skis, bathtubs and dodgem cars.
G2 Outdoor Events owner Mike Gale, who is behind the free event held opposite the Old Bridge Inn, has encouraged all would-be participants to be as imaginative and idiotic as possible when jumping down the 14 foot ramp into the Spey on August 20.
Mr Gale was forced to call off last year’s Big Splash due to lack of funding and organisation, but is delighted the event is back.
He has promised prizes for "the daftest jumper".
"I was planning on jumping this year. I’ll probably do something last minute and go into the garden shed to find something," Mr Gale revealed.
"We have prizes for the daftest jumper. The dafter the better this year! The idiots are back."
Preparations for the Big Splash are in full swing which was thanks to the help of No Board in Inverness, who were supplying the wood for the 14 foot ramp for entrants to propel themselves off.
Mr Gale hopes that the event will find more local support from sponsors.
The Big Splash will be giving any profits made on the day to the community group leading the efforts to get a major new sports complex built in Aviemore.
"We’ve always been lucky with the weather. The only thing we charge for is alcohol and any profits from the bar will go to the Aviemore Sports Complex this year.
"In 2009 we ended up giving £300 to the new community side of the primary school taking shape in Aviemore."
The Big Splash will also be having a warm up evening on August 19 at the Old Bridge Inn where the ramp will be tested from 7pm to 9pm. Bands will play until midnight.
Mr Gale added the group Size Queen, who have supported the Big Splash since it began in 2005, will be playing on the main day along with other bands organised by the Old Bridge Inn.
It is hoped that the famous mountain bike stunt rider Danny MacAskill and fellow top notch biker Nash Masson will attend.
