Joan Mitchell’s workmates at Inverness Railway Station arranged the special surprise for the train dispatcher to help mark her 25 years of service. And fittingly, it was the Staggies’ Highland derby day man of the match, goalkeeper Scott Fox, who turned up at Inverness Railway Station on Tuesday to hand it over to a “gobsmacked” Joan.

And there was double delight for Joan when the shot-stopper took striker Brian Graham along for the ride to mark the special day.

Workmate Elaine Kelman said: “I have worked with Joan for a number of years and we were just looking for a way to thank her for all her hard work. Another member of staff, Catriona, suggested Joan would love it if we could get a player to do it as she’s a huge Ross County fan. I just made the calls and the lovely people at Ross County made it happen.”

Scott Fox said he was delighted and recognised Joan as a stalwart who he had seen at many matches.
