Falklands adventure for 'Scot' reporter

ROYAL Engineers from Kinloss Barracks have been deployed on exercise to The Falkland Islands.

The routine training comes ahead of 48 Field Squadron assuming responsibility as lead air support for the RAF at the start of October.

‘Scot’ reporter Sarah Rollo joined the band of 94 men at the Mount Pleasant Airfield and Complex as they put their training to the test.

As Exercise Kelp Eagle ramped up, the Engineers were tested both physically and mentally as they faced a simulated attack on the airfield.

They had just hours to repair the devastated runway, restore power, and put in place an emergency water supply.

Amid darkness, and battling strong winds and freezing temperatures, the troops worked through the night to bring the airstrip back into operation.
