Railway sleepers worth £2,000 stolen from Tain

POLICE are trying to track down thieves who stole 100 new railway sleepers worth around £2,000 from a Ross-shire railway station.

British Transport Police officers at Inverness are appealing for information regarding the recent theft from a yard at Tain station.

Officers have information that the wooden sleepers were taken sometime between Tuesday, June 11 and Tuesday June 18.

Constable Nicky Ritchie said: "If you are offered railway sleepers from an unusual source I would urge you to contact BTP."

British Transport Police can be contacted on 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
