Gas leak tackled at Inverness sheltered housing complex

By SPP Reporter

STAFF at sheltered housing in Inverness have averted a serious incident following a gas leak today.

Workers for Cairn Housing Association noticed a strong smell of gas coming from a tenant’s flat at Falconer Court at 9am and immediately called emergency services and gas contractors to investigate.

While services were being called the gas supply was shut off and tenants from part of the court were evacuated from their homes by the staff to the communal lounge.

Tenants and staff then awaited further instructions from emergency services.

The fault was found and isolated and, once the all clear was given, the tenants returned to their homes.

Bob Pettit, Head of Care and Support said “ The most important thing is that no one was injured by what could have been a more significant event.

"All the staff involved can only be praised for the way they dealt with this. Their prompt actions ensured the safety of the tenants at Falconer Court and the wider public”
