Musical Wicked will finish its Scottish run of dates in Aberdeen next May – tickets on sale from November 21.

Telling "the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz", the musical will run from May 5 to 30.

The story is a witty re-imagining of the Wizard Of Oz stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum.

Wicked tells the story of an unlikely but deep friendship between two sorcery students who go on to fulfill their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Tickets will go on sale on November 21 at 8am for personal callers at the HMT box office with online and telephone bookings from 10am.

The show’s executive producer Michael McCabe said: "We are all thrilled that the Wicked UK and Ireland tour will round off its run of Scottish dates at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen.

"We’re enormously proud of this new production, which has successfully combined the size, spectacle and technical wizardry of the London show with an intimacy that has made the storytelling more captivating than ever."

Jane Spiers, chief executive of Aberdeen Performing Arts, the company which operates His Majesty’s Theatre, said: "We’re beyond thrilled to be welcoming Wicked to Aberdeen.

"It’s one of the biggest and most celebrated musicals in the world, and to attract a production of this calibre and popularity to Aberdeen has taken a lot of work behind the scenes.

"But it’s most definitely a milestone in HMT’s history.

"We’ve been besieged with enquiries since the tour was announced and we are preparing to be inundated when we go on public sale on November 21."

Acclaimed as "one of the most popular West End musicals ever" (London Evening Standard), the record-breaking London production continues its open-ended run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, where it is already the 15th longest-running musical in West End theatre history.

Wicked has already been seen by over 38 million people around the world and has nine productions running at the same time. The original Broadway production remains "Broadway’s biggest blockbuster" (The New York Times) where it is now in its 10th anniversary year. The West End production is now in its eighth year and will shortly celebrate its 3000th performance.

Tickets will go on sale from 8am on Thursday, November 21, both in person from His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen and phone bookings from 10am on 01224 641122.

The performance times will be: Monday-Saturday 7.30pm, matinees Thursdays 2pm and Saturdays 2.30pm. There will be no matinee on Thursday, 7 May but extra matinees on Wednesday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 26 at 2pm.
