Councillors will meet next month to talk about the access to the city's planned new multi-million pound college and university campus at Beechwood in Inverness.

A special meeting of Highland Council’s Inverness Nairn Badenoch and Strathspey planning applications committee is to be held towards the end of October.

This follows a decision by councillors on Tuesday not to simply rubber stamp the campus masterplan after objections by local residents.

But some community councils, including Westhill, fear it will lead to lengthy tailbacks on the already busy A9 sliproad and have called for a roundabout to be built instead.

Stuart Black, the council’s director of planning and development, has now said: “The deferral of this matter by committee provides some time to discuss the outstanding concerns there are, particularly in relation to access.

"We recognise HIE’s aspiration to commence infrastructure works and deliver the first phase of the campus project, but it’s also important that community views are taken fully into account.

"We know that HIE is planning further consultation and look forward to having positive discussions with the community over the next month.”
