CALEY Thistle look set to swoop for Northern Ireland under-21 defender Danny Devine until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old free agent could during the SPL winter break, which lasts until January 19, to strike a deal with Inverness CT manager Terry Butcher.

The Belfast-born stopper is a free agent this month after being freed by League Two side Fleetwood Town and following a loan spell at English Conference club Wrexham.

Butcher had stated that any activity, if any, would happen later in January, it seems the Highlanders could see off interest from rival clubs including Hibernian and Kilmarnock for his signature.

The six-foot tall defender has reportedly spoken to Butcher to try and land a deal with the club, which is second in the SPL, in the semis of the Scottish Communities League Cup and the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

Devine, who can play centre half of full-back, is seeking a fresh challenge and knocked back the chance of a new deal at Wrexham to try and land a fresh challenge.
