Dave Sharp hopes show will inspire regular gigs

Dave Sharp – best-known as co-founder of 80s New Wave rockers The Alarm – continues his Highland tonight (Friday) tonight at Nellie Deans in Inverness.
But he’s hoping to inspire a new era of live music which would continue at the venue once he heads back down the road next week.
Dave’s playing both days at this weekend’s Strathpeffer’s AmaSing festival plus Ullapool’s Argyll Hotel on Tuesday and Aviemore’s Old Bridge Inn next Thursday (Sept 5).
But he’d love to see the stage and PA at Nellie Deans being used to showcase rising young talent.
So he’s asked his friend, Inverness musician Gordie Grant, to put together a pool of potential performers who can start up a regulr live music programme in the venue.
Gordie said: "Dave believes that it would be great to give younger, up and coming musicians – and stand ups – the chance to perform in front of a crowd there.
"There is already a stage and a PA system in the place, so it seems a shame not to be putting it to good use to give musicians a place to showcase their work.

Dave Sharp originally comes from Salford but became the lead guitarist of Welsh punk rockers The Alarm who had hits including 68 Guns.
After the band ended, Dave embarked on a solo career, both playing solo acoustic and hosting gigs across the country.
But towards the end of 2007, he formed new band The Hard Travelers which showcased the the songs of Woody Guthrie in a line-up which included Henry McCullough, Zoot Money on keyboards, Gary Fletcher on bass and Colin Allen on drums.
Dave’s set may well include new songs from his latest album which could be out before the end of the year.
Tonight the music starts at 9pm with Dave being supported by his friend and Highland musician Davy Cowan who has just brought out his latest album Working Man’s Dream.
