RAF do a lot in the Moray community

By SPP Reporter

Sir, – I am writing in reply to last week’s letter and the comments about the men and women of the forces in Moray.

My family and I, who have serving members in the RAF, found the comments self-indulgent, indifferent to the community, arrogant, self-important and derogative to the forces personnel.

I understand about our taxpayers and pensioners, but we are very proud of what my sister, brother-in-law and cousin do in the RAF. All the men and women of the armed forces pay taxes, which means they contribute to their own wages and his pensions as much as the next working person; the difference is they have to go to war. They are keeping the war away from our front door by going to fight, far away from their family and friends.

My brother-in-law felt that the comments about them being self-indulgent was like a slap in the face. I’m sure he never once thought about his fellow soldiers in his squad, when out on patrol in Afghanistan, running the risk of losing their lives, as being self-indulgent. It is so far off base it’s unreal.

Many of the RAF personnel here in Moray do a lot of things in the community and for the community, so they are certainly not indifferent to the community, as last week’s letter-writer claimed.

I suppose they also took offence to the comments at a time when the whole country was paying tribute to them and others on Armed Forces Day.

Yours etc,

Y. Watson

Elgin.
