Veteran fundraiser, Elizabeth “Babe” Mackay of Harbour View, Skerray, has been recognised by Poppy Scotland for long service as a collector on behalf of the Earl Haig Fund.

Babe, who also fundraises on behalf of the Macmillan Cancer Charity, and who has been an active citizen in her home village all her life, received two badges, one a golden metal poppy and the other a red 50 year emblem to mark her half century as a volunteer collector.

To add to the honour, Babe’s collection over the last few days brought in a record £105.

Nor does she intend to rest on her laurels but is committed to continue her voluntary efforts for as long as she is able.
