Serious road accident near Ullapool closes road in both directions

A SERIOUS road accident has occurred south of Ullapool and police have closed the road in both directions.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on the A835 just north of the junction with the A832 at Corrieshalloch Gorge.

It is understood that a motorcycle has collided with a car.

Traffic is being diverted via Lairg.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1433 hours on Thursday 19 July to attend a road traffic collision on the A835 near Ullapool.

“We dispatched one ambulance and are still currently on scene.”

Calmac Ferries, which runs a service between Ullapool and Stornoway is holding the vessel in the meantime for motorists who are making their way to the ferry.

A notice on its website reads: "Due to a serious accident on the A835 outside Ullapool, the road is currently closed and traffic is being diverted via Lairg, which will add one and a half hours to the journey.

"Ullapool port will hold the vessel for a period of time until more information is provided."
