Evanton shelter repair is 'en route'
EASTER Ross villagers left shivering in a vandal-hit bus shelter through the worst of winter and gale-force winds were this week assured a remedy is on its way — after a two-year wait.
Concerns about the state of the shelter at the heart of Evanton have been raised with Highland Council and at community council level on a number of occasions.
The lack of several large glass panels in the shelter has left bus users at the mercy of the elements.
Preston White, who lives just outside the village, said: "The last two winters we have had panels missing. I’ve tried and tried to get something done. There are gaping holes leaving no protection against the weather. We are coming up to another winter and it seems to be now would be the ideal time to get this done. Come winter, the roads people will be very busy again."
Contacted for comment, a spokeswoman for Highland Council said: "We can confirm that the bus shelter panels have been measured up and ordered and the replacement panels are expected to be in situ by the end of October."
Asked why there had been such a lengthy delay to work being carried out, she said it was easier and more economic to carry out a batch order and to allow the supplier time to manufacture and deliver.
