Athletes beat personal bests
RUNNERS from East Sutherland Athletics Club who travelled to Thurso on Saturday for the opening round of the North Cross Country League recorded a host of superb individual and team performances.
Alyth Gollan got things going with an excellent victory in the first race of the day. And with Eva Morrison fifth, Jessie Munro eighth and Camryn Wilson 11th, the ESAC under-11 girls took team silver.
In the boys’ race, Kenneth Patience produced a fine run to take second followed by Hamish Munro in fifth place, Archie Ryder 11th, Archie Cameron 13th , Jamie Lockie 15th and Scott Goodlet 18th.
It gave the ESAC boys the same points total as Inverness Harriers, but resulted in team silver based on count back.
The under-13 girls’ team of Catriona Scott (13th),Catriona Wilson (15th) and Sophie Morrison (16th) found the extra distance demanding, but battled hard to score valuable points.
Eoghann Gollan led from start to finish in the under-13 boys’ race. And with great support from Shane Turney (3rd), Adam Allan (5th), Taran Squire (8th) and Struan Oliver-Jones (13th), the squad took team gold by a huge margin.
The same applied to the under-15 girls’ team. Constance Nankivell won the race by almost a minute. Teammates Helen Gordon and Rosie Nankivell finished in equal third. Team gold again went to ESAC.
The under-15 boys’ team grouped well with Angus Mohun (5th), Ruairdh Oliver-Jones (6th), Fraser Roach (7th) and Fraser Mohun in 15th place, but had to settle for team silver behind a dominant Inverness team.
Catriona Gordon showed great strength to take second place in the under-17 ladies’ race and led her team of Eilidh MacRae (4th) and Rebekah Bryan (6th) to yet another team gold.
In the under-17 men’s category, ESAC are blessed with a number of outstanding athletes and, with Ross Gollan winning the race in emphatic style, Liam Barnsby (3rd) and Alasdair Coupar (4th), this quality group of training partners took the team gold by some distance.
Sheila Gollan performed well to take second place in the Senior Ladies’ race and, with Audrey Scott 13th and Dawn Mohun 17th, the ESAC ladies took team bronze.
Ewan Scott looked comfortable throughout a quality Senior Men’s race and came home in 37th place.
