Heritage of buildings is showcased
PROMINENT buildings in Banffshire featured in this year's Doors Open Days.
Portsoy's Salmon Bothy and 1 High Shore in Banff welcomed the public to have a look around the historic properties.
The building in Banff was open on Saturday and Sunday and it is the only time it is accessible throughout the year.
A Doors Open Days spokesman said: "Dating from around 1676, this old merchant's house was once where multiple families shared lodgings.
"A stone spiral staircase takes you up three floors to explore where much of the original decorations can still be seen on the timbers.
"Almost every room has unusual nooks and crannies and corners opening off, and the house has its own private lookout tower.
"This is only open to the public on Doors Open Days."
The new silversmith centre at the town's Old Market Place could also be accessed by visitors.
Portsoy's Salmon Bothy was also open to the public on Sunday.
The spokesman added: "Opened in 2009 after extensive renovation, this historic museum is housed in what was the three ice chambers of the bothy.
"It tells the story of the history of Portsoy's harbour and its associated industries, as well as the history of the salmon fishing. The little bothy displays the authentic living quarters of the seasonal salmon fishers.
"In addition, a temporary exhibition in chamber one commemorates World War I with particular emphasis on Portsoy. Upstairs, there is a community space."
Fyvie Guide Hut and Parish Church was also open to visitors during the weekend event.
