Schoolboys accused of stoning train near Inverness
THREE schoolboys have been accused of throwing stones from a bridge and smashing a window of a train travelling from Inverness.
The incident happened at around 6.20pm on Sunday when the 5.55pm service heading for Wick was passing through Kirkhill.
It is believed the stones were alledgedly thrown from the Clunes Overbridge.
The train which was carrying around 70 passengers was forced to return to Inverness where an alternative train was provided.
Three boys, one aged 11 and two 13-year-olds are now the subject of a report by British Transport Police in connection with the incident.
Constable Matt O’Neill of British Transport Police, based in Inverness, said: "Invariably we see an increase in the number of route crime incidents, such as stone throwing, when the school summer holidays commence.
"I would urge parents to ensure that they know where their children are and make sure they warn them of the great dangers that can be posed by the railway."
A Scotrail spokesman added: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by circumstances which were outwith our control."
