POLICE have confirmed the body found washed up on the Black Isle on Monday is that of Inverness man Allan James Watson.

The 28-year-old's next of kin have been informed.

A major land and sea search was called off last month after he had been missing for a week, having last been seen entering the River Ness at the Ness Bridge on February 22.

The intensive search, which involved coastguards, the North Kessock inshore lifeboat and a helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, stretched from the River Ness out to the Moray Firth, but failed to find him.

A member of the public found the body on Fortrose beach at 1145am.
