Kinlochbervie High School pupils undertook the UK Coaching Certificate Level 1 Shinty Coaching Course last weekend.

There were nine participants – players, former players and coaches – who took on two days of theory and practical training to become qualified shinty coaches.

The course, which was facilitated by Active Schools Co-ordinator John Wood, was run by the Camanachd Association, the governing body for shinty.

They will be sending representatives in the next term to evaluate the final practical assessment for the participants before they receive their Level 1 Accreditation.

This is great news for shinty in north west Sutherland as there will be a wealth of qualified coaching talent to match the huge enthusiasm for the sport in the area.
