Ross County midfielder Jamie Lindsay says that the year he spent at Greenock Morton prepared him for life with the Staggies.

The 23-year-old spent a year at Cappielow two seasons ago, and enjoyed a degree of success under Jim Duffy.

At the time, the Championship was the highest level Lindsay had played at, and he believes that it was a necessary step up before making the move to Dingwall.

"I was 18 when I went to Dumbarton, and I was only 19 at Morton, so it was just about getting games," Lindsay recalled.

"I think I played about 40 games, and when you’re that age the most important thing is to play as many games as you possibly can.

"I probably didn’t expect for the team to do as well as they did, but that was a bonus and it gave me experience in that as well.

"If I didn’t have that year at Morton I probably wouldn’t have been ready to play in the Premiership.

"Everybody’s different, some people go out on loan and they go straight into the Premiership, but when you’re at Celtic and you’re playing youth games, first team games are completely different.

"You need to go out and play at whatever level you can and build your way up, and I’ve built my way up.

"Obviously my first season in the Premiership didn’t go as well as expected, but hopefully this season we can push on and get back there."

Now at the top of the table with the Staggies, Lindsay is loving life at the Global Energy Stadium.

He thinks that the positivity around the club is palpable on matchdays.

But with the club doing so well, Lindsay again points to his time at Morton as a reason that he is enjoying himself so much.

"I’m loving it, it’s probably the most I’ve enjoyed playing football since I was a boy," he said.

"Just everything about the club, everything about being in here every day is enjoyable, the atmosphere’s good.

"Then on a Saturday you can see it, not just me, but the boys are really enjoying playing the way we play.

"I think here we play a different way from what I played at Morton.

"At Morton we were more getting into the other half and playing from there, see what happens.

"But here is completely different, we have a proper style of play, we know how we want to play.

"That experience has obviously helped, being up there at the top of the league when I was at Morton has probably helped me in this situation.

"It all adds up, and that’s why it’s so important when you’re young to play games. Being in this situation again, I know how to handle it a wee bit better."
