THE Railway Man will be the latest blockbuster to be shown by Banff Cinema at the Harvest Centre on Monday, February 24 (7.30pm).

Surprisingly overlooked when the Oscar nominations were revealed recently, The Railway Man stars Colin Firth in the lead role and tells the true story of a British officer captured during the fall of Singapore and forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway by the Japanese.

The movie, directed by Jonathan Teplitzky, takes the lead character, Eric Lomax, through a voyage of personal discovery in the years after World War II as he finds and confronts one of his captors to deal with the psychological trauma, hate and bitterness which haunts him.

The earlier 5.30pm family film showing will feature Dreamworks' newly-released Mr Peabody & Sherman, a computer animated adventure comedy.

The film features a talking dog, business titan, inventor and scientist Mr Peabody and his adopted boy Sherman and their hilarious time-travelling adventures.

Tickets for the showings are available now from Strachan Pharmacy's branches in Turriff and Banff by calling 01888 562403 or 01261 812404, respectively.
