Everything's coming up roses in Alness for Coulhill kids!
AS the October holidays loom large, pupils at an Easter Ross primary have been looking back on a busy term which has seen them boost the fortunes of charities and show off a new “outdoor classroom”.
Youngsters at Coulhill Primary last Friday helped host a coffee morning to benefit Macmillan Cancer Support, raising £318 in the process thanks to the support of parents, staff and friends who donated and bought baking.
The pupils also unveiled their newly revamped garden which has been transformed with benches designed by Iain Chalmers of Black Isle-based Chainsaw Creations.
The school “houses” — Novar, Averon, Fyrish and Struie — are all represented in the garden, which benefited from an Awards for All grant. Coulhill now runs gardening clubs for the pupils.
Acting depute head Isobel Sutherland said the day had been a great success.
The following day, a car boot sale at the school boosted Coulhill coffers to the tune of £154. The next will be held on November 29 from 10am until noon.
Pupils have also shown their support for some of their counterparts in India through a link with Rosskeen Free Church which sees them sponsoring 10 children. And during the term they have also supported the Highland Food Bank.
Ms Sutherland said: “There has been a brilliant response from the community over the course of the term. People have been very generous.”
