Wick's South school kids clean up their environment

By SPP Reporter

Pupils at the South Primary in Wick have been getting out and about to brighten up their neighbourhood.

As part of the recent Keep Scotland Beautiful National Spring Clean, each class did a litter pick around the school, the field behind it and Roxburgh Road, with help from Highland Council countryside ranger Marina Swanson. The youngsters donned yellow tabards and worked as a team to sort out rubbish and recyclable materials – and the most unusual finds were a traffic cone and a hard hat.

The school has also just achieved its bronze eco schools award and is working towards silver standard.

The eco school group is encouraging recycling and the school’s blue bins are filled with paper, cardboard and milk cartons from the kitchen and nursery classes.
