First winter snow hits Moray
THE first significant snowfalls of winter have caused little disruption in Moray.
No roads in the area have been closed, although motorists are being urged to drive according to the weather conditions and make sure they are prepared for their journeys.
A Moray Council spokesman warned that low surface temperatures combined with snow showers meant some routes would be slippy.
He added: "Gritters started work on our priority one routes again at 6am this morning – they will remain on those routes as long as necessary before moving on to treat lower priority routes later in the morning.
"Additional gritters are out already on some of our urban lower priority routes. Footway gritters are also out this morning treating priority 1 footways.
"Road users should take extreme care when travelling today as there is a high risk of ice on all roads - even those which have been treated."
None of the authority’s 45 primary or eight secondary schools have been closed because of the weather.
The forecast for today is for temperatures to stay below freezing, with more snow showers likely in the afternoon.
A Grampian Police spokesman said: "There are no road closures, but motorists are advised to travel with extra caution.
"If you are travelling you should ensure you and your vehicle are adequately prepared for the conditions making sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in the event you are delayed for several hours.
"Charge your mobile phone and plan your route as well as alternative routes."
