Capercaillie celebrate 30 years in the limelight on BBC Alba

BBC ALBA celebrates one of Scotland's most successful traditional bands with a Christmas Eve screening of the documentary Capercaillie@30.
The programme accompanies the band to international gigs on their 30th anniversary year, offering a unique glimpse of life on tour, and sets out to tell two remarkable, parallel stories.
Alongside footage of the band, the film interweaves the story of Scotland's cultural and musical landscape, from a time of obscurity and decline, up to the present day when there is a renewed confidence and pride in Scottish music and culture.
Led by husand and wife team Donald Shaw and Karen Matheson, Capercaillie have sold over a million albums world wide, they were the first to achieve a Gaelic song in the UK Top 40.
Their music was the soundtrack to Hollywood blockbuster Rob Roy and they have performed in over thirty countries including Iraq, Macedonia and the Sudan.
A rich archive of tv and film work illustrates the developing sound of the band, and there are contributions from fellow musicians Phil Cunningham MBE, Donal Lunny, Allan MacDonald and Mary Ann Kennedy.
‘Capercaillie@30’ has been produced by Bees Nees Media for BBC ALBA and will be broadcast on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December, at 9pm.
