Quick-fire Wick goals sink brave Fort

By SPP Reporter

FORT William held Wick Academy for 51 minutes before the visitors to Claggan Park ran out 3-0 winners in the Highland League at the weekend.

It was caretaker Wick boss Richard Hughes last game in charge ahead of Barry Wilson taking charge and he saw Davie Allan break the deadlock from 12 yards just after the interval.

Allen bagged his side’s second just a few minutes later when he met a ball from Stevie Cunningham.

Wick added gloss to the scoreline on 72 minutes when Lukasz Geruzel’s header left keeper Iain MacLeod beaten.

Clach moved just three points behind Highland League leaders Cove Rangers on Saturday as they netted their first win at Keith since 2004.

The 2-1 victory is the perfect boost to the Lilywhites ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup third round trip to Second Division hosts Ayr United.

After a goalless first half, Scott Graham fired Iain Polworth’s team ahead when Zander Jack’s clearance hit referee Thomas Shaw and broke kindly for the Clach midfielder.

Keith hit back though moments later as Andy Anderson headed home the equaliser.

Clach raised their game again though and edged the contest when Martin Callum cracked home a 20-yarder for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Buckie Thistle were 3-2 winners at Rothes, while Deveronvale saw off battling Lossiemouth by the same scoreline.

Weather bit into the card on Friday night and Saturday morning as fixtures, Formartine v Nairn, Inverurie Locos v Cove Rangers, Strathspey v Fraserburgh, Huntly v Forres Mechanics and Turriff United v Brora Rangers were all postponed.
