Help promised for Moray's 3200 on housing waiting list

EXTRA efforts are being made to help the 3200 people on the waiting list for social housing in Moray.

Government housing minister Kevin Stewart visited Forres this week to officially open 20 new council homes off the Grantown Road, with rent charges of between £60 and £90 a week.

Mr Stewart, said: "We are committed to delivering at least 50,000 affordable homes over this Parliament, and ensuring they meet the needs of people and communities across Scotland – backed by £3 billion of investment.

The homes were build by Springfield Properties.

The firm’s chairman Sandy Adam said: "Not long ago we were building 50 affordable homes a year.

"This past 12 months we have built 500 across Scotland. Next year we are aiming to build 700."
