David Urquhart, a former director of Gordon and MacPhail who died in 2015 after a long battle with cancer, gave £50,000 to upgrade the path and provide accessibility for all, including wheelchair users.

The Findhorn Village Conservation Company is implementing the wishes of Mr Urquhart, who lived in the village, and is looking to raise more funds for the project.

Chairman Frank Allan said: "David, a member of the yacht club, loved this beauty spot with views across to the Culbin Forest and the Moray Firth. Latterly in his life, he expressed concern and was disappointed when he couldn’t get along the bay front. The existing path has an uneven, unbound surface with many loose stones and fairly steep gradients at some slipways, making it difficult for many people to access. The group has been working to implement his wish. At some point along the path route there will be a plaque to commemorate David."

Planning was granted for the David Urquhart Memorial Path last year by Moray Council.

Applications have been submitted by a conservation company in the hope of receiving grants to help with the project.

A grand raffle has also been organised, with the draw taking place at an event between 6pm and 8pm on August 18, at the Armstrong garages Findhorn with prizes being donated by many businesses. These include bottles of malt whisky – as David had the honour of being bestowed with the Keeper of the Quaich – accommodation in holiday homes in Findhorn and Glenferness, a North 58 Sea adventure from Findhorn, and many more.

Raffle tickets are on sale in shops, cafes, pubs in Findhorn and from directors of the Findhorn Village Conservation Company.

Donations can also be made through https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dufootpathfndhorn and a

live auction of whisky bottles is at https://www.jumblebee.co.uk/fndhornpathforall
