Villagers set for flood meeting

VILLAGERS in a coastal community badly affected by flooding from the sea and river will discuss their concerns tonight (Tuesday).

Innes Community Council will host a flood summit at Garmouth and Kingston Golf Club at 7pm.

That follows the bad storm before Christmas when many residents in Kingston took the decision to leave their homes because of the encroaching sea.

Members of the community council met Moray Councillors, officials and Highlands and Islands MSP John Finnie at Kingston on Monday to view the protective shingle ridge which was damaged by the storm.

A flood expert commissioned by Moray Council has said that although the shingle was flattened by about 1.5 metres, there is no need to take any immediate action.

That is not a view shared by the community council or local residents.

Moray Council has agreed to look at protective measures to shore up a soil embankment close to the homes in Kingston.

The meeting will be chaired tonight by local businessman Colin Murray and Innes Community Council chairman David Mackay.
