FLASH our 2018 Pets Factor winner is more than just a much-loved pet to owners Lillias Frederick and her daughter Katyanne Mackenzie.

The eight-year-old Border Collie has helped Lillias (65) cope with life after suffering a stroke 10 years ago that left her with a weakness down her right side. Lillias was hit by panic attacks and struggled to leave the house but Flash and the family's other tri-colour collie, Star, have been her route to the outside world.

"We got a dog to encourage me to go out for walks," said Lillias, from Lossiemouth. "I used to have dogs when I was younger but it was only after I had my stroke we got them again."

Lillias, whose husband George (68) is registered disabled, added: "We got Flash as a puppy because my daughter wanted to go out walking with me as well."

Lillias was delighted to learn Flash had won the most votes in the SPP Media Group's Pets Factor final.

"We bought Flash from a farm at Cornhill for £40 and it was the best £40 we have ever spent," she said. "He is very protective, especially towards my 11 grandchildren. Flash and Star are like family."

As well as the Pets Factor title, Flash wins £150 in Tesco vouchers for Lillias and daughter Katyanne.
