Mystery bang heard in parts of Caithness

An unexplained loud bang has been heard in parts of Caithness. It happened around lunchtime and was heard in Castletown and Watten.

It was described as being like a sonic boom which is associated with shock waves created when an object travels through the air faster than the speed of sound.

It did not appear as if any aircraft were in the area at the time.
