Musical edge to Wild North events
TWO Caithness musicians will be among those taking part in the first Wild North Festival.
Addie Harper, from Wick, will host a traditional music session at Melvich this weekend and Donald McNeill, of Thurso, will do likewise at John O’Groats next month.
The festival also brings the well-known piper, Allan MacDonald, of Glenuig, to an event in Strathnaver.
"Among many things, this festival is a celebration of local traditional culture and these informal sessions are just one expression of this," said McNeill.
"Anyone, of any age or ability, is welcome to join in or just come and listen."

Harper is at the Melvich Hotel on Sunday and McNeill is at the Seaview Hotel on October 14 for the festival’s finale.
The full programme was issued last week as a supplement by North of Scotland Newspapers and further copies are available at the Groat and Courier offices in Wick and Thurso or can be obtained by searching online for Wild North Festival.
As a pilot event, this year’s festival will be held from September 28 to October 14 and will focus on three distinct and stunning areas for nature, landscapes and culture – Mackay Country in Sutherland; Assynt and the north coast of Caithness, from Castletown to John O’Groats.
