Murkle charity whist drive raises over £400 for air ambulance

A special whist drive held in Murkle Hall raised £422 for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance.

Friends Liz Hewitson and Gemma Duguid got together to stage the whist drive and have plans for staging more across Caithness over the summer.

“We’re delighted that everyone was so generous,” said Liz.

“We had raffle prizes, and people donated cakes, all for a good cause. The ladies with the SWI wanted to have a break for the summer, so we thought we’d organise one ourselves and give the proceeds to charity, so that’s what we did.”

There were 10 tables at the event, and the cardmaster was Alexander Longmuir.

Prizes were donated by Our Community – Wick Tesco – and the organisers sent thanks to Karen Center for helping. Liz and Gemma donated food along with Helen, Yardi, Coral, Cheryl, Sheila and Anne.

Results as follows:

Ladies: 1 Coral Sinclair 176; 2 Janice Jordan 166; 3 Liz Candeland 165. Consolation – Pat Custer 136.

Gents: 1 Nettie Gunn (acting) 175; 2 Arthur Gunn 169; 3 Yardi Cumming 168. Consolation – Hugh Crowden 144.

The next charity whist will be held on Friday, May 30 at 7pm in the hall at Puldagon Restaurant with all proceeds going to the Laurandy Centre in Wick.
