THE North of Scotland should be considered as a possible site for the headquarters of the country’s new single police force.

That is the view of Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart who has vowed to keep up the pressure on the Scottish Government to locate the facility in the North.

“All I am pushing for is the North of Scotland not to be forgotten. After all it is a Scottish police force and the North of Scotland has by far the biggest area with regards land mass and coverage.

“This idea is not new, other organisations have relocated to the North – just look at Scottish Natural Heritage which is functioning well and is based in Inverness. There are other businesses and organisations which have satellite function outwith their main headquarters.”

Mr Stewart argued the siting of a major facility such as the police headquarters in the North would offset any job losses as a result of the restructuring and would be a positive step for the economy.
