Around a mile of the A9 south of Thurso is due to be resurfaced.
BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s trunk road operating company, will begin the work next Monday, August 7.
The £384,000 project will see a 1640m stretch of road to the north of Hilliclay resurfaced, replacing the worn out carriageway.
The work is scheduled to last until Thursday, August 17. No work will take place on the Saturday or Sunday.
A lane closure with a 10mph convoy will be in place from 7am to 7pm each working day, with a speed restriction of 30mph in place outside these times as traffic will be running over a temporary surface.
Access through the works site for emergency services will be maintained at all times, BEAR Scotland added.
It says that consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders in advance of the works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements and to minimise any inconvenience.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “We’re pleased to be able to carry out these improvements on the A9 on behalf of Transport Scotland and we’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience while we carry out the work.
“We have to use the lane closure and temporary speed limits to keep workers and drivers safe, but we will keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as we can. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
