Motorcyclist dies in A99 crash near Mid Clyth, north of Lybster

A motorcyclist has died after a crash on the A99 in Caithness on Thursday evening.

Police said a 30-year-old man who was riding a black Honda CBF motorbike was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bike was involved in a collision with a yellow Seat Ibiza. The driver of the car, a 74-year-old woman, was not hurt.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A99 at Blackness near Mid Clyth, north of Lybster, around 8pm on Thursday, August 17.

The road was closed while investigations were carried out and reopened around 3am.

Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing and officers are appealing for information.

Road policing sergeant Neil MacDonald said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died. Officers are offering them support and will continue to do so throughout our investigation.

“I’m keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, saw the vehicles prior to the crash or drivers with dashcam footage of the area around the time.”
