Keen cyclist Steve Goldsmith suffers from motor neurone disease and decided while he was still well enough to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats on a specialised bike.

Steve completed the 16-day challenge on Tuesday when he pulled in John O’Groats supported by four of his old cycling friends who accompanied him on the 870-mile journey.

Together they have raised over £2500 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Motor neurone disease is progressive and attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. This leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.

More information on the trip can be found on Steve’s website at www.5gonorth.co.uk

Donations can still be made at www.justgiving.com/Steve-Goldsmith1
